Places You’ll See

Bogdanovich Glacier

Bogdanovich glacier, perhaps, is the closest glacier to the city of Almaty located in Maloalmatinski spur of the Trans-Ili Alatau in the south-west of the Big Talgar pass. The glacier is named by glaciologist Dmitriev in 1911, in honor of the Polish-Russian professor-geologist Karl Bogdanovich, researcher of the earthquake that occurred in the city of Verny in 1910.

From the observation point of Bogdanovich glacier opens a magnificent view of the surrounding peaks: Amangeldy, Nursultan, Karlytau and many other.

You should be careful on the Bogdanovich Glacier!!! A glacier is a mobile part of a mountain ecosystem.

Important Information

What to Wear:

For good hiking you will need comfortable clothing - pants and jacket. The shoes should be without high heels: tourist trekking boots or similar, with a good sole and high lacing or sneakers.

It is also desirable to bring warm clothes, warmer than you normally wear; during the cold season - a hat and gloves.

Sun Protection

Especially at high elevations, you’ll want to do what you can to avoid sunburn (yes, even in winter). In addition to packing sunscreen, wear a brimmed hat and sunglasses. Light, long-sleeve shirts like sun hoodies can be a lifesaver on exposed trails.
